Golden Time and Other Behavioural Management Strategies
What is our time worth? How do we earn our joy? How can we maximise each moment?
Golden Time and Other Behavioural Management Strategies is an investigative study of the primary school incentive of Golden Time.
Golden Time is a behavioural management strategy used in primary school to reward good behaviour with an hour of free time at the end of the school week. Bad behaviour is punished with minutes deducted from the hour, resulting in time spent removed from the class.
Kate wants to tell you about Golden Time, about when she started to think about it again in her adult life. But ironically, Kate has terrible time management, and needs the audience to help her stay on track. Over the course of the performance Kate uses incentives, rewards, time limits, and positive behavioural management to understand her own relationship to Golden Time, and why she needs it so badly.
Performed solo by writer and performer Kate Ireland, Golden Time and other Behavioural Management Strategies asks us to question incentives, educational systems and productivity. It is an insightful interdisciplinary odyssey through a distracted, overworked mind in a world that has no plans to slow down.
